Rules for Using Cell Phones

By Tiffany Anderson

Cell Phones are doubtless very useful but it can be rather disturbing to others at your workplace or elsewhere as anyone is free to reach you at anytime. One has to make a choice of turning it off or on especially when at work or in college as it might disturb your co-workers, seniors or even your boss. It will also interrupt you in your work hence there is a certain cell phone etiquette to be followed.

During work hours, it is better to turn your cell phone ringer off or at least set it to vibration mode. The sounds of various ringtones going off can be very annoying to others. Moreover, you dont want your boss thinking you are on the phone all the time and not working. Use your cell phone only to make important calls such as checking up on your child at school or any other family work that has to be urgently attended to. Other social calls can wait till you reach home and are at leisure.

If at all you feel that you should be available to your family or others then it is better to put on your voice mail feature and later when you are free you can see your messages and the calls that you have missed. At least in this manner you will be saving a lot of disturbance to others. It is cell phone etiquette to make your calls somewhere private and not talk loudly when you are in company. One thing to be kept in mind is never to take your cell phone into a restroom which is supposed to be a private and personal place.

Cell Phone Etiquette also includes leaving your instrument behind while attending any meetings. This is because even if you have set it in silent mode or vibration mode, you may still be tempted to have a peek at it. This will disturb your concentration and you may miss out an important part or detail of the meeting or discussion.

Worse still, your boss might get offended as it is rather rude to keep looking elsewhere when a senior is speaking. The same rule goes for students attending a class. You have to wait for the meeting or discussion to be over and then get back to your cell phone. The above cell phone etiquette rules are only the really basic ones.
