It's hard, cheap, plastic, and just feels cheap. But at $15, the product IS cheap.
I am not sure if mine was just defective, but unfortunately, the product can only be returned within the first 30 days, so I will not have a chance to try out another one. I would not waste your money on this product. The vent setup is so wobbly and unstable that it moved around while I was driving. Also, I can't charge my phone while it's in the mount - so that rules out using it for Bluetooth music or GPS. I only knocked off a star for the vent mount problems but it is a very well-made product that has excellent value. Drive safe everyone! I've used this dash mount for three different types of phones over the past year: Motorola Droid (A855), Motorola Droid X, and the HTC Thunderbolt. This mount is able to tightly hold all three devices to the windshield while driving down poor roads. The more sloped your windshield the worse it will be as well. There are apparently clip-in vent mounts available made especially for your make/model of car from other vendors, and I'd look there before here.
The windshield mount, however works very well and holds firmly. If I had to do over, I'd still get this, but I wouldn't bother with the vent mount. If it works just great for this phone with the Otterbox, it will work for any phone. I have it on the windshield and haven't had any problems at all, great product!
I attach mine to the windshield and it holds great. On my wife's car, it is attached to the air vent and holds very well unless bumped from the side. My phone stays in well (Samsung mesmerize) and has never fallen out. Excellent product, highly recommend. Using dash mount, very adjustable and holds the phone well. Product seems pretty fragile so I try my best not to move it but it works for the most part.
Going through bumpy roads, the mount starts rattling loudly, which is also annoying. Other than that, it is a good product that helps me focus on the road. Holds my Samsung Captivate phone secure and stays on the dash or vent. I was able to rotate the mount in all kind of ways, until I secured it the way I want. You can put this puppy anywhere on the windshield and have excellent access to your phone. I have a great camcorder and this unit allows me to swivel my phone to horizontal position and use my camcorder (or camera) while driving with just the push of a button.
This mount is absolutely what I had in mind when I ordered it. I use it in my vent, and it has not damaged it at all.

The Vent Holder didn't fit one of my cars but it comes with a flat disk that can be secured to your dash if you don't like the window mount. AUTO MIRROR GLASS.
