This product is much better than a similar item I recently tried that cost just a few dollars less. This unit fits very well in the vents of the circular mini cooper, No adjustment needed at all Very happy with unit strong spring that holds unit in as well. This product worked perfect for what I was looking for. I wanted something to attach to my air vent, since that is the best place in my car to put my phones GPS, and it not be in the way.
I'm glad the vent clip isn't the only piece in this because it's totally useless. Any phone that has any weight to it (I have a big Droid 2) is going to pull the vent down, and it's also going to pull the adjustment arm on the mount down as well.
It's exactly what I needed, has some configurable parts that can be moved about, can be resized to fit various phone shapes, has various locking mechanisms and nice ball-joint parts that make it adjustable to almost however you want it. For how little it cost me, it was well worth the money. It fits Sprint HTC EVO & HERO in addition to most GPSs. The windshield mount works great in my husband's van. FURTHERMORE, the part that holds the phone slides on (AND OFF) the part that was supposed to hold on to the vent. So I suspect, although I did not try it, that it will slide off of the suction cup part too. I've gone through a lot of these things, and trust me you're getting a great deal here. I haven't had any problems with it coming unstuck or anything, it seems pretty solid as a rock once it's on the windshield. I didn't see any reviews from people with the D2G, so, if you have one and are wondering. It works fine!
I've heard the clip doesn't reach far enough into the vent to work, but I don't use it. I wouldn't have written this review unless it was five stars or zero.
The other reviews here give a good description of what you can expect. I imagine that actual performance varies quite a bit depending on the car itself - particularly with the vent adapter.
I am not sure if mine was just defective, but unfortunately, the product can only be returned within the first 30 days, so I will not have a chance to try out another one. I would not waste your money on this product. The phone holder is click-adjustable and holds most smart phones and PDAs. The size isn't right for small feature phones. It's still not perfect, but it's a very secure mount and worth $15 any day. Original review: When I received the mount, I was quite pleased.
I have a Seido case on the Droid X and it still fits perfect. The USB charging port stays open and the mount is adjustable to many different configurations.
